2014 Diego Simeone Tactic???

Haven't watched them in a while, but if he's still playing the counter attacking 442 teams then I've tried and it's not so great. It's a basic back 4, two DMC's - a DLM and B2B, ML and MR wingers and poacher and a complete forward (do whatever you want guy) up front. Tough tackling, counter attacking mixed passing.

It is 4-4-2 Classic, with BBM and BMW in the mids

using Direct passing and hard tackling

using a target man and a poacher at the forwards

But Athletico are a great counter attacking team, I can't remember ever seeing them play with a target man. Where do you get your information from?

I'll explain as my two posts differ to each other lol, after answering this I spent the night watching Athletico on youtube, they're definitely a CA team without a TM

I usually name strikers like  mandzucic, Jelavic,Carrol,Pazzini, Crouch , ... as a Target man!!

Because of their height,They are always a target for crosses  :D

That's not a target man at all.

For a start, Mandzukic in FMH terms is the perfect DLF, not TM. But in real life, he's closer to the complete forward that I mentioned. Yes he is big and powerful, but you have to look past that. He runs for days, he moves around that pictch more than any player on any given day. That's not a target man. Mandzukic regularly helps out in midfield and has great technical ability that most TM's are lacking.

The only TM out of them players you named is Carroll.

So.....

A target man is a Heavy and tall Poacher?

A target man generally stays up top waiting for the ball using his positioning. When he gets it he keeps it where it is using his strength to hold off the opp and will make a pass when possible.

And you can see the difference with Mandzukic, as he's up and down the pitch all day long.

Most often a team using a target man as their main point of attack will use long passing anyway.

I agree,,,,I think Mandzukic role is Complete Forward,,he can play DLF,DF,Poacher,Target man etc in real life

Actually I'm gonna presume Dec's talking about FMH. And in irl it's not positioning I'm thinking of, it's anticipation. Andy Caroll's not just a bad TM, he's a bad human being.

442 defensive?

Wb--cd--bpd--wb

-----B2B--dlm------

Wm--------------wm

-------inf--------------

-------------cmf------

Koke the other wide men (turan etc) definitely aren't wingers.

Team intructions not so sure - Attacking, Mixed, committed, pressing in my opinion. Don't seem direct unless it's a clear counterattack.

Frontman possibly advanced forward too (mandzukic) but he's definitely not a poacher

Didn't go with an APM in attacking mid as they don't have a prime creator there. Koke is the closest it gets but he plays wide coming in
