The 'Crucifix'  4-1-3-1-1 ---A Premier League Tactic

The English Premier League is one of the most competitive leagues in the world and arguably the hardest league to play in fmh2014. There are no definite strong or weak teams in the EPL. Manchester United could easily lose to Crystal Palace. That's why a consistent tactic is needed.

This tactic has brought me huge success in multiple teams. For example, in Arsenal, I managed 95% winning rate in season 1; in the English National Team, I won the world cup and Euro cup without losing a single match; in Southampton, I won the league and 2 cups in season 1.

This tactic does not suit clubs with a lot of quality wingers, because there are no wingers in this formation.

If you are playing as a very strong club such as Real Madrid or Bayern, this tactic will guarantee that you win almost all of your matches. However, you will seldom win by 4 or 5 goals per game. More likely, you will win by 2 or 3 goals each game. That is the downside of this tactic: it is safe because it dominates the game, but conservative because not much players on your score.

This is the tactic:

Team Mentality:

Attacking, short, commited  pressing on, offside trap on

Results with Southampton:

I had too many draws because my strikers were not good enough. Osvaldo was too inconsistent and Lambert scores mostly from set pieces. Otherwise the season could have been better.

Player Roles: (all the general requirements apply, I will only address special needs to suit this tactic)

for general requirements, see: fmhvibe.co.uk/community/topic/18234-key-attributes-for-each-player-role/

Goalkeeper: 'Aerial' is very important! The opponent will cross a lot because there are not enough players out wide in this formation. 'Communication' is very important! Because tackling is on committed, our team will tackle a lot, and the opponent will have quite a few free kicks.

Central Defenders: 'Teamwork' is very important! If your CDs have low teamwork, please turn off 'Offside Trap'.

Wingbacks: 'Crossing' and 'Stamina' is very important! This formation asks a lot from your wingbacks and their stamina will drop fast.

Ball Winning Midfielder: a deep lying midfielder can also work here. This is the most important player in your defense and he might get the highest rating in your team.

Box to Box Midfielder: As versatile as possible. Should be good defensively and offensively, can play multiple positions, high 'teamwork' helps!

Advanced Playmaker in Midfield: The Mastermind of the team. Should be the most expensive and consistent player on your team. He will create loads of chances, pass, and assist a lot. 'Creativity' is very important.

Recommendations--  cheap: honda      world class: kroos, wilshere, fabregas

Advanced Playmaker in attacking midfield: 'Shooting' and 'movement' is very important! There isn't many attacking players in this formation so we need this guy to score.

Striker: He will get about 80% of shots in your team, so make sure he is class. It's good to have 3 strikers ready for this tactic. Then you can always play the one on good form.

General Traits:

This tactic puts 5 players in the middle of the field, so you will dominate possession and hopefully get a lot more shots than your opponent. It does happen sometimes, that even though you shoot 10 times more than your opponent, you still lose. So having a striker that could convert and good goalkeeper is important.

The 5-person midfield is very flexible. You can tweak the roles to accommodate different situations. The BWM can also be a DLM. The APM upfront can be a INF. The middle-three can any combination that works for you. Note that it is best to have either a BBM or an APM on the 2 sides of the middle-three, because they need to support the flanks.

Always look at the "Home Stat" (or "Away Stat" page if you are playing away) page during a match. If one of your defenders or BWM isn't tackling enough in the first 30 minutes and has a low rating, sub him out immediately so that you don't concede goals.

If you are behind or doesn't seem to get chances, try changing passing style to 'direct', or changing one BBM into an APM.

Alternative formations:

Against a team significantly stronger than you, you can play this:

post-44771-0-14370500-1415391505_thumb.j

team mentality:

balanced, short, commited, pressing on, offside trap off, counter attack on

Against a team you want to score a lot against, you can play this:

post-44771-0-85365800-1415391499_thumb.j

team mentality:

attacking, mixed, normal, pressing on, offside trap on

Final words:

Fortunately, this tactic seems to work for more than 1 or 2 seasons. Teams will likely not get accustomed to this tactic because you can constantly tweak the player roles to make it different.

If you use this tactic but do not get as good results as I do, try reading this thread I posted:

Good luck!

Hi. Mate I am doing this wit tonbridge and.doing great but I am doing short passing

That's great! I think short passing is best for this tactic because it helps our team control the ball in midfield.

Do you use Facebook fmhandheld your tactic is even better in skrill premiership

I use IOS. I haven't tried this in lower leagues yet. Just a little bit worried that the BBM and Wingback roles are too demanding for lower league players. Hope it works out for you!

I used to play with a tactic similar to this ages ago, because of it's shape I called it The Crucifix

Arms a really good tactic but Im guessing it would be a waste using it at Liverpool cause of the likes of sterling and illana... ;(

That's kinda true. Lallana can play as apm in attacking midfield, but Sterling won't fit. Sterling is underrated in fmh2014, though. I think his PA will be raised significantly in fmh2015. You can look forward to that ;)

Just tested this tactic with Athletico and had great success! Only lost 2 matches in the season. I rotated Koke and Gundogan as the mastermind of my midfield(Gundogan was not my first choice, but Wilshere refused to come and Kroos was too expensive).

I seem to concede a lot of goals, though. To solidify defense I sometimes change 1 Central Defender to limited defender.

Be careful revealing PAs and such as some people don't want to see them ;)

Sorry. just edited

Cheers will take a look, does the poacher bag loads of goals

As you can see from the images above, the poacher definitely does. Diego Costa scored 89 in season 1, including 6 against Real Madrid! His tally could have been well over 100 if he was not injured for a month and unproductive for 2 months after his injury :( (fortunately Leo stepped up and did his job).

One thing to pay attention to is that in this formation, strikers sometimes score too much that they easily become "overconfident". So buying a strong player who is good enough or modest enough not to become "overconfident" is important.

Overconfident?

It's a kind of negative emotion that happens when a player performs well over his ability/ or just because the player is conceited. I think it has something to do with hidden personality stats. For example, it happens to Balotelli a lot.

Hi using this for fm15, bought reus and using him as an inside forward instead if a apm behind the striker. Noticed though he does sometimes get more shots in than the poacher? Would this be right?
