2015 Trouble in Bilbao

Hi all,

One of the best parts about FMH is the way we can tweak the classic goal challenges many different ways to keep them interesting.

This will be a double trouble career at it's heart, but with a twist - as you may have guessed from the name, I will be playing at Athletic Club.

vR6Syqh.png

The Basque club have a rule of only signing Basque players, and this rule is in place in FMH (if you view a non Basque player profile you can only scout them, not make an offer).

This obviously adds a layer of difficulty as it limits your pool of players somewhat - fortunately they have a pretty awesome academy with some exciting young talents like Munian and Guillermo.

The Players

jRXoFws.png

Player one will be Guillermo, a talented young Athletic striker.

tsDjIl8.png

Player two is Iker Hernandez - currently plying his trade for my arch rivals Real Sociedad, it's time to move him to the real Basque club.

And undertaking the assist challenge will be player number 3.

Iker Munian, arguably the best known Bilbao player at the moment.

Season one, part one on the way!

Season One - Part One

Athletic Club Bilbao have one of the greatest histories in Spanish football, although their glory has faded in recent years.

They are the only club other than Real Madrid and Barca that have never been relegated from the Spanish first division.

They have won the Copa Del Rey 24 times, second only to Barca and La Liga 8 times, but despite producing world class players like Javi Martinez and Fernando Llorente in recent years haven't won a major trophy since they last won La Liga way back in 1984!

It's time to restore this fallen giant to it's rightful place at the top of Spanish football.

The fans were satisfied with the summer window - the proven talent of Raul Garcia arrived from Atletico was a statement of intent, as was the acquisition of another progidy from rivals Real Sociedad in the form of Ruben Pardo.

Unfortunately the window ended on a sour note after Barcelona made a bid for our star midfielder Iturraspe. We turned it down, but he started complaining in the newspapers and the squad turned against him, so he was flogged to Schalke.

Things started well, with the highlights being wins at the Nou Camp and Stamford Bridge, the fans were behind the team more than ever.

We were playing exciting football, although our defence had problems with switching off at key moments.

At the January break we were sitting in a respectable third place in the league, having topped our Champions League group and in the semi final of the Copa Del Rey, knocking out the rivals along the way.

I forgot to take pictures but the boys were progressing nicely - Hernandez had 22 goals, with Guillermo playing the supporting striker role well with 18 goals and 6 assists.

Munian was the star though, with 9 goals and 11 assists.

Part two on the way tomorrow hopefully, as always thank you for reading and any comments :)

Season One - Part 2

sYtyR6d.png

We kept our momentum up into February, doing the double over Barca.

Things went went wrong in the Champions League, with a disappointing (but deserved) exit to Juventus in the first round.

fXxRotT.png

With 8 games to go, we recovered from our slump and perfected our tactics, and now sat 4 points behind Real. Could we really win the league?

ZhnUGRP.png

Atletico do us a massive favour, and stop Real's winning streak. Could we take advantage?

rUtd3OJ.png

The lads deliver in style! 2 points behind with 5 games left.

rjACLP7.png

Disaster! Damn super keepers, the pressure is on now...

wgeQryA.png

2 games, 2 points! Soo tense!

tkiT1up.png

A win for us and 2 points dropped by Real means we're level on points going into the last game!

YiGzc7S.png

Can our guys keep their cool? At home to Almeria, with a superior goal difference, the title is ours to lose?!

gbN7z7b.png

A late Bale goal isn't enough as we squeeze past Almeria and claim our first title for 31 years! The fans went wild!

We won the Copa Del Rey, with a comfortable win over Barca!

UdwQQwg.png

The three lads showing their class. The Barca fans weren't so impressed...

Nimmgxi.png

So all in all a successful season. How did the lads get on?

A clean sweep of awards.

Guillermo

Shaping up in to a complete forward.

OArhlot.png

Not a bad season - could have scored a few more, but decent enough.

Iker Hernandez

Solid stats for a poacher.

Boom. Pretty solid.

Iker Munian

Stunning from the young playmaker. Responsible for 42 goals!

Double trouble: 73/1200

Assist challenge: 27

You have selected a very nice young trio. They look strong already and will only get better.

Slighly worried about Hernandez tho 11 stamina for a 21 year old doesn't look promising.

If the bug hits I think you should be allowed to select a replacement as it'd be a shame to have it ruined

Check with the challenge creator if so.

KIU!

Yeah, it's not the best but he seems to staying at that amount so far - he's playing as a poacher so fortunately he doesn't need to exert too much energy, just hangs around the penalty area.

Thanks for the comment :)

Cheers Ash :)

Season Two

So the lads had a reasonably successful first season, that saw the board give us a nice big transfer pot - after some fiddling with the wage budget and selling some deadwood we had over £100m to spend. Shame the pool of players to spend it on was somewhat lacking in quality.

Also brought back several talented youngsters on loan.

Transfers

6E720RW.png

Just the two big signings, but what a pair - Javi returns home from Bayern to bring some genuine world class to our defensive midfield, and Inigo will be a partner to Laporte in defence.

Super Cup

74QI2YN.png

lF7NupH.png

With a settled team and tactic, we annihilate Barca over two legs, humiliating them 4-0 at the Nou Camp, and a hat-trick to start the season for Hernandez.

Things continued to progress well, comfortably topping a tough CL group, and sending Bayern into the Euro Cup

Runner up spot for Guillermo - a fix if there ever was one ;)

January Update

KMlkoLb.png

EM7Vltf.png

phc8beO.png

Solid enough, though a little too many goals being scored elsewhere - my tactic is producing some great results, but it doesn't seem to focus on the big two up front enough. May need to revise it for next season.

We powered on through the CL...

oNvmFEt.png

A last minute goal from super sub Sola (seriously, he scored about 6 goals as a back up striker this season and I think all of them came in the last 10 minutes!) sends us through a tense tie with the defending champions of Porto.

kldwsVU.png

An easy win at home followed by a 0-0 draw at the San Siro sees us past Inter as well.

Copa Del Rey

bWgFwBR.png

A tense final against Real sees the young keeper Arrizabalga be the hero and save the last penalty, not bad for a 21 year old!

ooBVIsw.png

We keep our momentum up and hammer SLB in the semi-finals - Athletic Club are in to our first ever Champions League final!

We dominated the league, and despite the best efforts of the ref and an opposition striker who dived twice(!) we hold on against Sevilla in ourast game of the season to end the campaign undefeated, retaining our La Liga title.

DztbKV3.png

XMB0eZP.png

Too many draws and not enough goals for my liking - we really hit a goal drought after Christmas.

Champions League

HCHFUbK.png

A great start is undone by our ongoing inability to convert chances, and the fans are left heartbroken as we lose the final on penalties. The team doesn't quite have the quality in depth yet to last the distance in these games.

So a pretty good season, barring our CL heart-break. How did the team get on?

0dlzgaX.png

Damn you Messi.

GHYRJ7z.png

rwvaNZh.png

The lack of the big player award shows the problem - we did well, but the lads really struggled in the latter half of the season, with the midfield taking too many of the chances we did take. Time to change tactics.

M28Y6kr.png

i2kyMyw.png

3irvir1.png

The boys stats are developing nicely, which makes their under-performance in goal terms all the more frustrating. A mere 58 between them this year, and in 10 more games :$

8Srt4et.png

XHqIpml.png

Fall off in performance for Munian too - a pretty underwhelming season all told, and next year is going to have to be massive to make up for it - as the boys come in to their prime we need to be scoring 100ish a season between them.

Double Trouble: 131/1200

Assist challenge: 42

There was one more piece of exciting news to make the season slightly more sweetly though...

gKSUpjD.png

This will be a massive boost to the lads goal totals!

Thanks for viewing and any comments :)

Should have season three finished tomorrow.
