Initial Stats at the start

I feel that Danny Batth is too good for the Championship on FMH hence why I buy him in most of my saves playing as a mid table Premiership team. I've found him to be very consistent and is still young meaning he has many top years at the top. In my current save with Sunderland of which I am a few years into, I am in the Champions League and Danny Batth is putting in solid performances in it and is a full England international, partnering Gary Cahill.

Current stats (2020, Sunderland)

Technical

nqTaNjW.jpg

Aerial (+3)
Crossing (+1)
Dribbling (-1)
Passing (+2)
Shooting (-2)
Tackling (+2)
Technique (+2)

Some quality technical stats in there especially those nineteen ratings for Aerial and Tackling. He can also distribute the ball from the back well meaning he should be a good ball playing defender but I've had problems deciding what his best role actually is between a Central, Ball Playing or a Limited defender. Shooting and crossing aren't a worry.

Mental

Aggression (+2)
Creativity (-4)
Decisions (+1)
Leadership (+1)
Movement (No Change)
Positioning (+2)
Teamwork (-1)

Not that much change here in the mental stats but once again you look at the two most important attributes in this section, which for a centre back are decisions and positioning, and he has greens in these too, with a sixteen and eighteen rating respectively.

Physical

Pace (+2)
Stamina (No Change)
Strength (+1)

Another solid area of his game with a solid fourteen pace, fourteen stamina and fifteen strength. These physical stats are incredibly useful as not many attackers will have a field day against him via the option of pace, he can run all day and he doesn't get outstrengthed easily. These are useful for a Central, a Ball Playing or a Limited defender so it makes the choice of which role to play him in even harder.

Central, Ball Playing or Limited defender?

As above mentioned I have had trouble choosing which role suits him best between the Central defender, the Ball Playing defender or the Limited defender. I have been so undecided I've used him for a couple of seasons in each role.

Season One - Ball Playing defender

Appearances (Starts/Sub Appearances): 39 (36/3)
Goals: 1
Assists: 1
Av.R: 7.50
Position in League: 6th

Season Two - Ball Playing defender

Appearances (Starts/Sub Appearances): 48 (44/4)
Goals: 2
Assists: 3
Av.R: 7.21
Position in League: 2nd

Season Three - Central defender

Appearances (Starts/Sub Appearances): 39 (36/3)
Goals: 3
Assists: 1
Av.R: 7.42
Position in League: 1st

Season Four - Limited defender

Appearances (Starts/Sub Appearances): 44 (42/2)
Goals: 1
Assists: 1
Av.R: 7.09
Position in League: 2nd

Season Five - Central defender

Appearances (Starts/Sub Appearances): 50 (46/4)
Goals: 4
Assists: 2
Av.R: 7.56
Position in League: 1st

Season Six - Limited defender

Appearances (Starts/Sub Appearances): 51 (50/1)
Goals: 1
Assists: 2
Av.R: 7.41
Position in League: 1st

Stats wise it is a very close call. However, for me, considering he put in his best performances and the team won the league both times when Danny Batth was playing as a Central defender, this is probably his best role. Limited defender is probably his worst role, but he can still do a job in that role and as a Ball Playing defender.

Is it possible to retrain him?

No, and I don't see why you would want to. His best position is clearly centre back.

Verdict

Pros

Young
English
Wins a lot of headers
Strong tackler
Impressive physical stats
Consistent

Cons

Distribution is sometimes poor from the back
Struggles to read the play occasionally
Doesn't perform in the big games

Overall

I think it's clear to see that with intensive training and a good amount of first team action, Danny Batth is too good for the Championship at the start and especially a couple of years into the game, and is better suited for a top half Premiership club. As already stated I feel Central defender is his best role but not by much as he is also an excellent Ball Playing or Limited defender. From my experience in this save, it was best to accompany him with a Ball Playing defender when Danny Batth was being used as a Central defender, and a Central defender when Danny Batth was being used as a Ball Playing defender.
